My first purchase when getting back into the drum world was to get a Yamaha DXTREME IIS. I know many turn up their noses at electronic drums, but this set did just was I wanted. It was quiet and I could practice just about anytime without annoying the family.

I've used it to play at church and it works great there. I never over-power the other instruments or the room. Plus, for some reason, the e-kit isn't as intimidating to those who don't like drums.
